Tyler Perry used to own 25% of BET+, meaning he had a significant ownership stake in the streaming service — kind of like owning one quarter of a business. Paramount, the big media company that owns the other 75%, decided they wanted full control, so they paid Tyler Perry tens of millions of dollars to buy his 25% share from him. Now Paramount owns 100% of BET+ outright.
On top of that, Paramount is shutting BET+ down as its own separate app and folding all of its content into their bigger streaming platform, Paramount+. So BET+ essentially won’t exist as a standalone service anymore starting in June 2026.
Tyler Perry is no longer an owner of anything here — he sold his piece and walked away with a big payout. However, he still has a contract with them through 2028 to keep making his TV shows and movies, they’ll just live on Paramount+ instead of BET+. So he went from being a part-owner of the business to simply being a highly paid creator who makes content for them. He has no ownership power or financial stake in the company anymore, but his shows aren’t going anywhere.
