Matt Ryan was named President of Football Operations despite having no prior operations experience.
Black candidates frequently encounter situations like this at all levels. They apply for internal postings, are interviewed, often have qualifications and experience that exceed the job requirements, yet still don’t get the position. Too often, the decision has already been made, and the interview serves only as a formality.
Black applicants are given false hope, told they interviewed well, and that the choice was difficult, when in reality the outcome was predetermined.
