Mike Tomlin is stepping down as Steelers head coach after 19 seasons, telling players Tuesday following Pittsburgh’s wild-card playoff loss to Houston.

He has never had a losing season and ranking among the NFL’s all-time wins leaders. Though he had two years left on his contract, Tomlin’s resignation allows the Steelers to keep his coaching rights if he returns to the league before 2027.

He could also be headed to television as a potential next step in his career.
