Karlous Miller’s College Hill Moment Just Got Proven Right
Karlous Miller caught a lot of heat during his appearance on College Hill for pushing back on the group’s conversation about homelessness. While his castmates argued that homelessness is everyone’s problem, Miller took a different stance — insisting that it is ultimately a government and political failure, not something that falls on the shoulders of everyday people or even wealthy celebrities.
He didn’t deny that homelessness is a serious issue. His argument was that the people in power have the money and ability to fix it overnight if they truly wanted to. He even pointed out that parking ticket revenue in Los Angeles alone could make a dent in the crisis. When one castmate pushed back and tried to propose solutions, Miller shut it down fast, reminding him that making NBA money and not buying anyone a house means you don’t get to lecture others either.
The room didn’t know what to make of him. Some thought he was being disruptive. Others were just confused about where he actually stood.
Now fast forward to today. The National Homeless Law Center posted about a new bill advancing in Louisiana — one that would force homeless people to either go to jail or enter involuntary treatment, make them pay for that treatment, and if they can’t pay, require them to perform unpaid labor.
Miller’s response was simple: “Somebody send this to my teacher from College Hill.”
He didn’t need to say anything else. The bill is a perfect example of exactly what he was arguing — that when governments finally do act on homelessness, they often choose punishment over solutions. His College Hill castmates wanted everyone to take personal responsibility. Miller kept pointing at the people writing the laws. Louisiana just proved his point.
