You guys need to pay attention to how they’re treating Mike Vrabel in the media. Pay attention. They’re treating him with grace. They’re treating him with a sense of understanding, a sense of sorrow. They feel he should be able to handle his personal affairs behind the scenes, and they’re being considerate — not just of him, but of his family. They’re showing you how to do it. Schefter is showing you how they do it. Rapoport is showing you how they do it. Even Stephen A. Smith is not going at this like he usually would with others.
But then I want you to see how they go at players. How they talk about players’ personal lives, things going on outside of football — how they show no consciousness of these players’ families and friends. No empathy. No understanding. No sense that these individuals deserve personal privacy.
And I just want you to know — they are able to do it. They just pick and choose who, what, when, and where.
If this had happened to Mike Tomlin, it would be everywhere. If this had happened to any player in the NFL, it would be everywhere.
