Dear Black Americans: A Cheat Code to Job Interviews
• Get there early.
• Memorize the company’s mission statement.
• Have your questions prepared—remember, it’s an interview, so you should be interviewing them too.
Ask key questions:
• Why is the position vacant?
• What support is provided for this role?
• What does success look like in the first 90 days?
• Mention pay during the screening process.
When asked about weaknesses:
Say you’re learning to accept help instead of trying to do everything alone.
• Let them know you’re interviewing elsewhere—without sounding desperate.
• Create urgency. Let them compete for you.
